Terms of Service

These terms are an agreement between you and Xenco Labs, Inc. ("we," "us") for your use of checkmylawbill.com, app.checkmylawbill.com and the CheckMyLawBill service. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. If you use CheckMyLawBill for a business or a client, you agree on behalf of that business and confirm you have authority to do so.

Effective October 25, 2026

1. The service

CheckMyLawBill reads the legal bills you upload, compares each entry with the fee agreement, rate notices and other information you provide and with published billing standards, explains entries in plain English, lists questions you may want to ask the firm’s billing department, and drafts a clarification letter for you to review and send yourself. We may change, add or remove features; if a change materially reduces what you have paid for, we will tell you in advance.

2. Not legal advice

CheckMyLawBill is not a law firm. It does not give legal advice, does not represent you, and using it does not create an attorney-client relationship with us or anyone else. Its results are factual comparisons and questions, not conclusions about what you owe, whether a charge is proper, or whether your lawyer acted correctly. It does not tell you whether to pay, dispute or take any other step, and it never contacts your lawyer for you. For advice about your situation, consult a lawyer licensed where you live. The State Bar of California describes its fee arbitration program on its fee dispute page; that link is for information only.

3. Check the results yourself

Reading a bill is not perfect. A scan may be unclear, a layout may be unfamiliar, and the results depend on the rates and terms you enter. CheckMyLawBill reports only from statements whose own totals agree with each other, and tells you when it held a statement back, but you are responsible for checking every question against your bill and your agreement before you rely on it or send the letter. Edit the letter as you see fit; you are its author and sender.

4. Your account

5. Your documents

You keep all rights in the documents you upload and the information you enter (“your content”). You give us a limited license to store, copy, read and process your content only to provide the service to you, to keep it secure, and as our Privacy Policy describes. We do not claim ownership of your content and do not use it to train artificial intelligence models.

You confirm that:

Privilege and confidentiality. Legal bills can contain descriptions of legal work that your lawyer treats as privileged or confidential. Sharing privileged material with a third party can, in some circumstances, affect the privilege. We keep your documents confidential and limit who can see them, but we cannot tell you whether uploading a particular document affects privilege in your matter. If that matters to you, ask your lawyer before you upload, or remove the sensitive pages first.

6. Support access

Our staff cannot open your documents unless the account owner grants a named person access from the dashboard, for up to 72 hours. You can end a grant at any time. We use that access only to help with the problem you described, and every page viewed is logged.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

8. Fees

CheckMyLawBill is currently provided at no charge. Before any paid feature applies to you, we will show you its price and terms and ask you to agree to them; you will not be charged without that agreement.

9. Our property

We own the CheckMyLawBill software, checks, rule sets, report and letter formats, name and logo. These terms give you no rights to them beyond using the service as allowed here. Reports and letters produced for you are yours to use for your own matters. If you send us feedback, we may use it without obligation to you.

10. Third-party services

The service relies on providers such as our hosting, database, storage and sign-in providers, listed in the Privacy Policy. Links to outside sites, such as the State Bar of California, are for information; we are not responsible for their content.

11. Ending your use

You can stop using CheckMyLawBill and delete your account and all your content at any time from the dashboard’s Account page. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts other users or the service at risk, or where the law requires it. Unless the law or a safety concern prevents it, we will tell you why and give you at least 30 days to download your content, except when we close an account for unlawful use. Sections 2, 3, 5 (as to the confirmations you give), 9 and 12 through 16 continue after your account ends.

12. Disclaimers

The service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not promise that the service will find every question in a bill, that every question it raises is correct, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, savings or data, arising out of these terms or the service, even if we were told they were possible. Our total liability for all claims arising out of these terms or the service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose or $100. Some states do not allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for fraud, gross negligence or willful misconduct.

14. Indemnity

If you use the service for a business or for clients, you will defend and indemnify Xenco Labs, Inc. against third-party claims arising from content you uploaded without the right to do so or from your breach of these terms.

15. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Before filing a claim, please write to support@checkmylawbill.com so we can try to resolve it informally within 30 days. Any dispute that is not resolved will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Alameda County, California, and both parties consent to their jurisdiction. Either party may instead bring an individual claim in small claims court where it qualifies.

17. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will change the effective date above and, for material changes, give notice by email or in the dashboard at least 30 days before they take effect. If you keep using the service after that, the new terms apply; if you do not agree, you can delete your account before they take effect.
